Mythic Wisdom for the Contemporary Woman
This interview will become available on June 13th at 7 am Pacific / 10 am New York / 3 pm UK / 4 pm CET.
Maria Souza is a Comparative Mythologist, Poet, Historian, and Educator, with a deep commitment to exploring the rich tapestry of myths and their relevance in contemporary life. She holds a postgraduate degree in Comparative Mythology, a Master’s in Ecology and Spirituality, and an Advanced Training Certificate in Applied Mythology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Her journey into mythology began in 2008 during her studies in History, later deepening through her MA in the UK. This path ignited both a personal and academic dedication to uncovering the timeless wisdom of myths and symbols. With seven years of experience working in the Brazilian Amazon alongside Indigenous communities and serving as a consultant for the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), Maria offers a distinctive perspective on cultural narratives and their sacred origins.
Her poetry book, Wild Daughters, weaves together mythological themes and ancient tales, shedding light on the profound initiations women face. Her writing captures the beauty, risks, and transformative experiences of these passages, reflecting a search for depth amidst modern distractions.
Maria offers a range of courses, workshops, and two mentorship programs, guiding women to connect with archetypal wisdom and integrate myths into the heart of their creative and professional lives.
She also hosts the Women and Mythology Podcast, part of the Joseph Campbell Foundation’s MythMaker℠ Podcast Network, where she explores the enduring relevance of myths in today’s world.
